Several consumers have complained that during update from 6u6u18, 6u22 and 6u23 to 6u24 the installation abrupt with error "the wizard was interrupted before Java 6u24 could be completely installed".
Most complains was reported with Windows 2000 sp4, however there were a few with Windows xp sp3.
Browser: Firefox 3.6.15, IE8 and IE6.
I was not able to reproduce this internally.
Here is a description on how to reproduce this, provided by a consumer:
My OS is Windows 2000Pro SP4 and rollup.
My browser in Firefox 3.6.15
Java is not currently installed - see step 6 and 7 below.
My firewall is ZoneAlarm 7.0.462.000 (This was the last version to support Windows 2000)
Who takes notes, when they do not expect trouble? So, from memory, this was the sequence of events:
1. Java was installed and updated in the past with no problems.
2. I received notification of the new version.
3. I followed the link.
4. I downloaded the installers and allowed them to run (ie did not save them to file) and got the error message.
5. Browsed your website for instructions, FAQs etc.
6. Found the suggestion to delete C:\Program Files\JAVA\jre6.
7. Did this. There was some difficulty that I cannot recall in detail - one of the .exe files did not want to delete and I do not recall what I did, but succeeded eventually. Hence I now have no record of what the last Java version was, except that I keep things up to date where possible. Hence also, there is no Java Log to show you.
8. Went to Java.com and downloaded again. Got same error message.
9. Turned off the firewall.
10. Same result as 8
Some consumers provided their workaround the issue:
1) Disable firewall and antivirus client and then proceed to installation.
2) Reinstalled 6u22, as 6u23 failed to update
Some additional comments provided by the consumers: Cannot update or remove current version.
Please refer to attachments with two new sets of log files.
