For T4, there is a new crypto library which is simpler to use and has less overhead than the standard PKCS11 APIs.
Together w/ the JVM enhancement (tracked by 7013347 "allow crypto functions to be called inline to enhance performance"), it should offer quite some performance improvement for crypto calls.
