The ability to hide the dock icon is necessary for applications that run out of the system tray. This argument is a logical and useful addition to the existing -Xdock:name and -Xdock:icon parameters.
This seems especially prudent as OpenJDK will need to be distributed with java7 applications on mac (due to non-guaranteed support). The JarBundler tool for integrating the application into the environment isn't compatible with this style of deployment.
