the issue http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=7130796 has been closed so I cannot comment there.

It was asked in that issue if we could verify the fix in java8. We can confirm that the latest beta releases of java 8 to fix the problem. So far we have found no work around on java7 - we don't appear able to avoid the issue (have changed the cancel key behaviour and other close code, but still occasionally are locked by discaardUrgent data. We've written monitors for the situation, but interrupting, recreating the selector, stopping the thread have all proved insufficient to rescue the server.

Could the fix in 8 be backported to the next release of 7?
