We currently have multiple configure options related to builddeps, which is basically useless outside Oracle and probably useless just even outside the Stockholm office.
I think we should seriously consider removing the builddeps code, or at the very least disable the configure options, before the switchover.
I know there is one person that is using this, and it is Fredrik. But I believe he is the single user of this feature. I'm not sure how he would react to the proposition to remove it. Still, I do not think it is ready for prime time, and I believe unused/untested/unusable features should be removed from configure and the makefiles. When we need them again, it's in the hg repo.
I'd cc'd Fredrik to this if I only could figure out how to do that in Jira...
