Clean up snapshot->wait() usage in the NMT code

      There are two calls to snapshot->wait(1000) in the NMT code, but there is no notifier and it's unclear what the use of this lock is for. These two wait calls seems to be the only use of the lock. Someone should clean this code a bit.
