*** Scenario:
- 64-bit jre 7u15 installed
- Try to install 64-bit jre 7u17 from java.com
*** Result on x64 Windows 7: (tried in 2 different machines)
- JRE is corrupted
- No java*.exe under /system32
- No java control panel under windows control panel
- No java*.exe under /system32
*** Steps to reproduce:
0) Uninstall all JREs / Clean up the related jre registry/folders
1) Install 64-bit jre 7u15 fcs
2) Use 64-bit IE browse java.com
3) Click Free Java Download link
4) Strictly follow the instructions to complete the 64-bit jre 7u17 installation flow
e.g: do as suggested such as close the browser, app, reboot the system....
If you see as listed in the above result, the issue is reproducible
In short, 64-bit jre 7u17 is not installed correctly
Many files are missing , e.g. C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\lib\
The fact that 64-bit jre 7u17 registered under Windows Add/Remove list confirms the installation went through and got corrupted
