Java version: 7u21
If it previously worked, which was the last version it worked in: 7u17
OS: Mac OSX 10.8.3
Browser Name: Firefox and Safari
Hardware: Mac Mini
Applet Name and link: Test VM - https://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp?detect=jre
Bug description:
After removing any version of Java, reinstall the latest version (in this case Java 7u21), Java will not verify unless the system get restarted
Steps to reproduce:
1) Uninstall any version of Java from your Mac system using the following instructions from java.com:
To uninstall Java 7, you must have Administrator privileges.
Click on the Finder icon located in your dock
Click on Applications tab on the sidebar
In the Search box enter JavaAppletPlugin.plugin
This will find the JavaAppletPlugin.plugin file
Right click on JavaAppletPlugin.plugin and select Move to Trash
2) Proceed to test Java on https://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp?detect=jre
Java is not recognized. Also, tested against a Pogo game called Scrabble, same thing Java not recognized.
3) Restart the Mac system, and this time Java is recognized
Reproduced by Java.com team: Yes
NOTE: I was able to reproduce this consistently 4 times in a row on Thursday May 23rd, 2013 on my Mac Mini. However, today Tuesday May 28th, 2013 I can no longer reproduce this issue. The only difference between May 23rd and May 28th was that I was prompted to install Firefox 21.0 but I never proceeded to install it. I still have Firefox 19.0.2. I could consistently verify Java 7u21 over and over 4 times without any issue or error message.
