ADDITIONAL OS VERSION INFORMATION :
Windows XP Professional, version 5.1.2600, SP3 Build 2600, on an x86-based Gateway E-4500D PC.
A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
The Java uninstall tool failed to run to remove older versions. Incorrectly reported my browser as IE 6. The full browser version is IE 8.0.6001.18702, Cipher Strength 128-bit.
REPRODUCIBILITY :
This bug can be reproduced always.
CUSTOMER SUBMITTED WORKAROUND :
Will re-try or remove manually.
