A DESCRIPTION OF THE REQUEST :
This is needed for Windows JNI developers. Sorry, I could not fing an appropriate choice in calssification dropdowns thar preceeded feature request form.
JUSTIFICATION :
Windows debuggers cannot reconstruct call stack in case symbols are not available for the binary being a part of the callstack. A message similar to " The frames below can be incorrect " (varies by debugger) is displayed in the call stack and in fact oftentimes call stack is incorrect.
EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
EXPECTED -
Publicly available symbol servers, like Microsoft's http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/311503 or Mozilla Firefox's http://symbols.mozilla.org/firefox, see https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Using_the_Mozilla_symbol_server, allow to address this problem no matter if the source code is also published or not. This is an issues for several developers in my organization.
Note: http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=7187755 touches similar subject, but only for people who have access to the Java build process, I think symbols should be published, like other major vendors of SDK for Windows do. BTW, the server metioned in the quoted bug is not accessible for me at the time of writiong
