Netbeans has a nice feature to run/debug bootstrap langtools tools - this is very useful in cases where the build partially succeds - i.e. the compiler sources compile, but the bootstrap compiler fails to re-compile all the compiler sources. This is a nasty situation to be in as there's typically not much that can be done, other than adding debug statements in the code, or debugging the bootstrap compiler from command line.
