During initialization, VM_version_init() is called in init_globals() (in init.cpp). The problem is that os::init_before_ergo() is called before init_globals() in Threads::create_vm and os::init_before_ergo calls os::large_page_init which on Solaris calls VM_Version::page_size_count() which calls VM_Version::is_sun4v(). is_sun4v() will always return false since VM_Version_init hasn't been called.
The result is that Solaris always will use only two page sizes, even though VM_Version::page_size_count() returns four if VM_Version::is_sun4v() returns true.
