Apparently there is no public documentation available online how to supply multiple asset sets for HiDPI support. In particular, when providing a bitmap file name in using CSS, the designer needs to know where to store and how to name the different DPI versions for one bitmap. Without this information, when running on HiDPI, the supplied bitmaps will occur much too small w.r.t to the surrounding text.
