RT-9680 recommends enhancing our round rect support to allow custom arc widths and heights at each corner. That enhancement will allow controls to start using that built-in primitive for implementing the backgrounds of many of the controls. To really capitalize on that enhancement, though, shadows will need to be optimized for rounded rectangles since many controls include such effects as drop shadows.

RT-5347 also discusses optimizations for rounded rectangles, but it considers that optimization to be outside its scope. If we want to optimize round-rect controls with drop shadows, though, we will need to solve the problems that would allow us to optimize shadow effects for rounded rectangles. This issue is specific to tracking that particular optimization.
