Ensure we have a null cursor fallback in lens.
We would want this available via env variable.

But.... how would we trigger the fallback ? Right now some of the platform cascade is based on calling the cursor initialization, so that would imply a problem falling back to a null cursor.

Perhaps we need to change the initialization sequence.
