Currently when a JavaFX application is accessed and the JavaFX runtime is installed, the spinning gif is displayed until all components are downloaded and installed. In the case where JavaFX is installed but the application isn't, the same spinning gif appears. It is critical for user perception to provide a informational splash screen, or sequence of splash screens to the user when JavaFX is being installed for the first time. Ideally a progress bar or count down timer would also be included. This could be achieved by launching a Java applet to display the splash screen(s) and progress bar while JavaFX is installed.
This is critical for perceived startup performance. Inconsistent startup times when the user has JavaFX installed or not with no feedback is the greatest concern for production deployment of JavaFX, and is a significant hurdle to the success of JavaFX in the Vancouver Olympics (VANOC).
This bug will be used to track changes needed to bundle default progress implementation with JavaFX runtime war (including changes in the JNLP file).
