This relates to an issued discussed on my blog here: http://jonathangiles.net/blog/?p=451
In summary, the TextBox in JavaFX 1.2 does not appear to use the correct font in Windows (Vista). You can make it resemble the font used in other controls by setting the font to be 11pt Verdana, but of course most people won't do this. I would expect that this could be rectified if the font were properly set within JavaFX.
It's almost as if the TextBox component does not use the same Caspian skin as the other controls in JavaFX, especially when compared to the mockups of the controls that Jasper did here: http://fxexperience.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/controls1.png
Cheers,
