When you press Shift+Right/Left it should expand or contract selection by one item in multiple cell selection mode.

Select a cell and
1. press Shift+Right -- it selects the cell on the right side of the lead (two cells are selected)
2. press Shift+Left -- the selection from the cell on the right side of the lead is not removed (two cells remain selected)
