Using shift+click I select items, and deselect them, using shift+click again.
You can see, that focus stays on the previously clicked item, when I shift+click on the anchor (or, may be, not anchor).
Please, check focus position with different combinations of anchor and selection/deselection using shift+click. It could be not a trivial issue.
