It is noticed on some x86 XP/ IE 8 machines that java plug-in is not registered after install FX 2.1 runtime
(reproducible on some machines where FX 2.1 plugin is NOT registered with IE at all)
*** Tested Configurations:
- OS: x86 XP machines
- Browser: IE 8
- jre 6u31 fcs
- javafx runtime 2.1-b13
*** Steps to reproduce:
0) No jre/fx runtime install
1) Install jre 6u31 -fcs (b05)
2) Use IE browser to load a traditional applet
e.g http://0-360.com/gallery.asp (click on any view java virtual tour to launch)
As expected, the applet will load using Java Plug--in 6u31
3) Install javafx runtime 2.1-b13
4) Repeat step#2
If the applet fails to load then the issue is reproducible. There is no problem with Firefox or Chrome
It appears the FX 2.1 plug-in jp2iexp.dll is not registered with IE and also somehow, the 6u31 plug-in is not picked up by IE
5) Uninstall FX 2.1-b13
6) Repeat step#2 and the applet will load
The problem occurred in step#4
