If I log into Gmail, create a new message, click "Attach a file", click "Choose file", and choose a file to attach, nothing happens, i.e. the area next to the "Choose file" button remains empty, and if I send the message, the message gets delivered without the attachment.

It could be that WebView does not POST files correctly. I have a similar problem with attachments when accessing Jira using WebView.
