Placing a Label inside a ScrollPane causes the font to become bold. If you set the font to bold, it becomes even bolder. Setting the label fontweight to light or thin cause the text to look lighter and thinner, but still bold.

My labels were inside a VBox which was inside a ScrollPane which was inside a Tab.

If I removed the ScrollPane, the text displayed how labels normally appear. I'm using the Modena theme.
