The implementation of the navbar (i.e. its CSS placement) causes problems when navigating to an id near the top of the main page. Specifically, the page moves to a position where the id would be visible except for the navbar that overlays it. This leads to confusion (where is the place I wanted to navigate to?) and the need to scroll the page to get the desired position out from under the navbar.
