When a root verification failure occurs the VerifyRootClosure logs information about the broken oop on the gc+verify=error tag/level combination, except it prints the actual problem "Root location 0x... points to dead obj 0x..." on the info log level, so unless gc+verify is at info you only get the oop printout and no idea what's wrong with it until you look in the verification code.
