After the fix to JDK-8152974 was backported to 8u172, Java Web Start applications will usually hang when console is opened and focus is switched between application and console.
You can see this running an example from the Tutorial such clicking the launch button on: https://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/uiswing/components/text.html
just run, move application away from console - then resize application and console a few times.
