Let's make sure that we document in the release notes the following changes from the previous release
- Deployment Stack, which is required for Applets and Web Start Applications, was deprecated since JDK 9 and has been removed in JDK 11.
- Auto-update, which was available for JRE installations on Windows and macOS is no longer available.
- Not having a deployment stack the whole section of supported browsers has been removed form the list of supported configurations of JDK 11.
- In Windows and macOS installing the JDK optionally installed a JRE, this is no longer an option.
- We will not offer JRE or Server JRE for 11. We will offer only JDK. Users can use jlink to create smaller custom runtimes. (Will update accordingly when we do offer JRE but won't make forward looking statements yet)
- The JDK remains available in English, Japanase, and Simplified Chinese.
- The JRE was translated to 8 additional languages: Chinese (Simplified), French, German, Italian, Korean, Portuguese (Brazilian), Spanish, and Swedish
We do not plan to offer translations to those languages on JDK 11 or later.
- JavaFX is no longer included in the JDK. It is now available as separate download from Gloun https://gluonhq.com/
- Java Mission Control, which shipped in the JDK for JDK 7, 8, 9, 10 is no longer included with the JDK. It is now a separate download.
- Updated packaging format for Windows from tar.gz to zip as that is more common in Windows OSs
- Updated package format for macOS from app to dmg which is more in line with the standard for macOS
