    by the tool, in a form that can easily be cut-and-pasted into a
    script for those who need to do a lot of customization. The current
    verbose output shows (at least some of) this information, but in a
    difficult-to-use format.

Although there are problems making the output something you could just cut and past into a script (some of the input files are dynamically generated). We can make the verbose output much closer to this goal, and show more clearly the steps jpackager is taking.
