Now that JDK-8234284 has been fixed it is possible to provide a customized background tiff which can properly support retina screens, but during this change, the default background used by jpackage should have been updated too. On a retina screen the default background still looks blurry. You can especially see that for the arrow in the middle. Mac user are very critical about such issues and why should the default output of jpackage look ugly if that can be easily avoided by just providing an updated multi-resolution image.
