Outdated terminology often consists of words and phrases that have very strong negative connotations, such as „master and slave“, „blacklist“ and „whitelist“. These connotations make them offensive and distract from the actual concepts that they describe.
We plan to evaluate uses of this terminology in our source code and documentation and replace it with more precise, appropriate and inclusive language. Outdated terminology in third party software and industry standards is more difficult to change, so we will monitor upstream changes and evaluate them as they become available.
We plan to focus on the terminology outlined in the in-progress draft RFC „Technology, Power, and Inclusive Language in Internet Drafts and RFCs“. [0]
