While working on JDK-8252797 it was observed that an interaction exists between specific versions of GCC/gtests and JDK headers
One workaround to that issue was to use gtests version 1.10.0 as opposed to 1.8.x
It was claimed that we do not document anywhere the version of the gtests framework expected to be used with JDK16. We should publicly document what version of gtest to use, if we are not doing that yet.
Additional related comment was that removing gtests from JDK repo was a mistake and that we should bring it back. If we did, we could have upgraded it and all developers would benefit transparently without a risk of running into the issue inJDK-8252797
