The fix for ~~JDK-8233678~~ deactivates and then reactivates the application on macOS to allow the system menubar to work. This causes a brief flash in the terminal window which becomes active again for a short time when the launched application is deactivated. This visual effect is undesirable, so we should investigate whether there is a way to avoid it, while still preserving the fix for the menubar.
