Java update fails to install with no error messages

A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
Trying to update Java 8 Update 261 to 271 from the Java control panel. Clicking on "Update now", bring up Java Update Available. Clicking on Update bring up the Install windows. Clicking on the Update button, the window closes and Java does not update. I can see in the task manager jre-8u271-windows-au.exe is running, but does not install. jre-8u271-windows-au.exe will stay there until you end task. I have left jre-8u271-windows-au.exe running for more then 24 hours without any upgrade.
