The auto-generated links to headings in JavaDoc-generated documentation implemented in JDK-8289332 use buttons to transfer the permalink to the user's clipboard via JavaScript. After discussing this feature we came to the conclusion the copy-to-clipboard functionality does not add a lot of usefulness compared to just providing plain links to the headings/section. A review of other developer oriented documentation sites reassured us that this is the way to go.

The buttons should be replaced with plain links using a "double chain link" icon as label. Of course usability and accessibility concerns must be considered.
