The class `sun.net.www.protocol.file.FileURLConnection` has been called an "old, intricate, and hard to maintain piece of code".

There are however some relatively straightforward cleanups we can make. The class has some unneccessary fields, an unneccessary rethrow, a for loop can be enhanced etc.
