A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
I run the JRE installer for Apple Silicon, enter my administrator password, click on Install, and immediately get an error message: Failed to install Java, OS error code 1. Shortly thereafter, I get a MacOS notification saying: Background Items added: Software from "Oracle America, Inc." added items that can r un in the background. If I click on this notification, I can see an entry for Oracle America, Inc. was added to my startup items. If I try to remove Java using the JRE installer, I get a message saying Java was not detected on my machine.
