GenShen uses growth of old generation memory as one of its triggers for old-generation marking. For consistency of measurement, it is preferred to account for current live data using a snapshot-at-beginning protocol.

Any growth of old generation (promotion) during during concurrent marking should be subtracted from the total memory "marked" by concurrent old marking.
