The problem can be observed by running any program in which a JFileChooser
is used. For instance, run the JDK's FileChooserDemo.jar.
When a JFileChooser is shown, the focus is given by default to the drive list
combobox when using Windows or Metal LAF (and the folder/path textfield when
using the Motif LAF). While I imagine this is intentional, it would certainly
be more appropriate (in particular for the Windows LAF) to initially have the
focus on the filename textfield.
While other bug reports have singled out many, many similar issues (that is,
shortcomings in the Windows LAF in general) I have never come across this
mentioned specifically. (e.g. 4268204)
