      Customer Problem description:
      -----------------------------

The java_plugin_AppletStore directory on NT gets very large. The jar files just for the apps in our own application consume about 13MB in the jar cache. That gets multiplied by the number of servers a user happens to work with. Three servers, for example, means 40MB of disk!

Since the jar cache is in c:\winnt\profiles\<user>, which means it's always on the C drive. Since most people keep the C drive FAT, that can mean a big hit on the C drive's space.

      a) From what I understand, Sun should have its own way of specifying where to store the plug-in cache. Users should be able to specify this as part of plug-in installation and modify it from the Plug-In ControlPanel.

      b) In the 1.3 PI, there is no way I know of to clear the jar cache, other than dragging all the entries to the trash from an NT Explorer -- not a very graceful way to do that. I believe I saw in the patched 1.3 PI ( 1.3.0_01 ) an option to clear the cache. But that's not very graceful either.

What is needed is a way to clear from the cache the jar files for specific servers. Users should be able to specify they want to clear the jar files from the cache for the server FRED, but not MARY.

This is an important issue, as you can imagine from the cache_table entries I
sent. 50 MB is a big chunk of space off the C: drive.
