Consider adding a "resume download" feature.
Implement http compression of non-jar items.
      Add native offline detection.
respect the no-cache directive in URL headers.

First, I had trouble downloading one of the sample programs. It stopped 90%
into the download. I was hoping that a restart would pick up where it left off
(as is the case for some programs). Unfortunately, this was not the case. Can it
be designed to do this? Would definitely be more user friendly.

java web start should be able to resume an interrupted download. i'm talking of the download
of an application designed for web start, not the web start itself. If the network connection is
slow (dialup modem users?) it may happen to lost the connection, so one should redownload
all the entire application from the beginning. I'd like to restart an interrupted download even
after a day, for example. not just in the same web start session.
