STEP TO REPRODUCE:

Bring over the J2DBench from /net/sqesvr/export/2d/Kestrel_2d_ws parent workspace to your child workspace.

Install the Ladybird b11 build in your home directory and set the JAVA_HOME and PATH to that version.

CD to J2DBench under your child workspace and enter the following command:
/gnu_utils/sparc/gnumake all


RESULTS:

1. There are 2 result reports: baseline report is Kestrel with server VM mode; and Ladybird report with server VM mode. Compared with these 2 reports, I found that the performance of 2D in Ladybird is significantly slower than that of Kestrel on sol/sparc 9 platform.

I varify the results by running J2DBench 2nd time. The result from 2nd time is similar to 1st time. Please refer to attachments for these 4 reports.

Or cd to /net/sqesvr/export/st3/jdk1.3.1/beta/results/b11/Sol9/j2dbench for these 4 reports.

2. Do another J2DBench tests with Ladybird b11 (client VM mode, sol/sparc 9 platform) and find the following results:
The performance of Ladybird b11 (client vm mode) on 2D is similar to that of Kestrel (client vm mode). Please cd to /net/sqesvr/export/st3/jdk1.3.1/beta/results/b11/Sol9/j2dbench for these 2 reports too.

3. Result on sol/IA8 using server vm mode:
The performance of 2D on Ladybird beta b12 is still much slower than that of on Kestrel. Please cd to /net/sqesvr/export/st3/jdk1.3.1/beta/results/b12/IA2.8/j2dbench for these 2 reports.

J2DBench tests were done on win2K, winNT4.0, and Linux RH7.0 on Ladybird build 18 with server vm. The results are still disappointing. The performance of ladybird (with server vm) on 2D is much slower than that in Kestrel.
