InstallAnywhere 2.5.5 vs Merlin VM beginning with b51

XMLWordPrintable

    • linux, solaris_8

The application is attached. Extract it. There is a single binary
      named Install.bin.
Change PATH so that a Merlin java is discoverable.
Type ./Install.bin at the command line.
Take all of the defaults when prompted. I generally declined the request
to make a link from ${HOME}/InstallAnywhere to the InstallAnywhere_2.5.5
directory. The application will create two directories "InstallAnywhere_2.5.5"
      and a hidden directory ".java".

The application will seem to go to sleep. This occurs when the window
says that the current step is "Installing Dir Reg Key", whatever that
      means.

"ps" shows that the application runs "oldjava". Attaching "truss" to
the "oldjava" indicates that the application is sending and intercepting
      an endless sequence of SIG_ALRMs.

Please advise if the use of SIG_ALRMs is no longer allowed. If there is
a work around, that would be nice to know, too.

Keylabs reports the same failure on Redhat 6.2.
