A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
I am using Windows 98 Second Edition. After installing
J2RE 1.3.1_02 Standard Edition Java Plug-In, an
Control/Object Properties Applet (icon) for Java2RE Plug-In
appears in the following directory:
C:\WINDOWS\DOWNLOADED PROGRAM FILES
Double-click on the Java Runtime Environment Properties
Applet (icon), a Java Runtime Environment Properties box
appears, and there are three tabs: General, Dependency,
Version. On the Tab labeled "General", under "Status" it
reports "DAMAGED".
STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM :
1. install J2RE 1.3.1_02 Java Plug-in on a Win98 machine
2. restart
3. go to the directory C:\WINDOWS\DOWNLOADED PROGRAM FILES4. find the Java Runtime Environment Properties Applet(icon)
5. open it (double click)
6. A Java Runtime Environment Properties box appears, and
there are three tabs: General, Dependency, Version. On the
Tab labeled "General", under "Status" it reports "DAMAGED".
Also reports "damaged" for "file size" under Dependency.
EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
Who knows, all the other Object Properties Applets/Icons in
the same folder report "Installed" as their "Status".
This bug can be reproduced always.
