Name: gm110360 Date: 05/07/2002
FULL PRODUCT VERSION :
java version "1.3.1_03"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.1_03-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.3.1_03-b03, mixed mode)
FULL OPERATING SYSTEM VERSION : Windows 2000 build 2195,
service pack 2.
EXTRA RELEVANT SYSTEM CONFIGURATION :
Internet Explorer 5.5, sp2, patch Q316059, VM 3805.
A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
In the most recent incremental release of the 1.3.1 Plug-in
(1.3.1_03), installing the Plug-in disables the Microsoft
VM in IE.
This happens when NOT selecting the checkbox asking if I
want to make the Plug-in the default VM for the applet tag
in IE.
REGRESSION. Last worked in version 1.3
STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM :
1. Install Plug-in 1.3.1_03 for Windows. Do not check the
box to make Plug-in default VM for IE.
2. Launch IE.
3. Try to load any Java applet. Get nothing but empty
square with red X.
4. Open Plug-in control panel, go to Browsers tab, select
IE, OK. Open control panel again, deselect IE, OK.
5. Launch IE, load an applet, it loads with MS VM.
EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
Expected that installing Plug-in would leave IE VM setting
alone, unless explicitly requested to make Plug-in the VM
for IE.
This bug can be reproduced always.
CUSTOMER WORKAROUND :
Open Plug-in control panel, select IE checkbox, apply (or
OK), deselect IE checkbox, apply (or OK). MS VM is now
operational agan.
Release Regression From : 1.3.1_02
The above release value was the last known release where this
bug was known to work. Since then there has been a regression.
