      EXTRA RELEVANT SYSTEM CONFIGURATION :
      This occurs in the GNOME desktop environment with compiz desktop effects enabled, and not with compiz desktop effects disabled.

      A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
      When ImageJ is run in the GNOME environment with compiz desktop effects enabled, windows are rendered empty about 25% of the time and they are not listed in the taskbar. Disabling compiz desktop effects is a workaround.

      STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM :
      Install ImageJ and run it under GNOME+compiz. Open some files, open some plugins. Window contents are often missing.

      EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
      EXPECTED -
      Window contents should be rendered.
      ACTUAL -
      Window contents are not rendered.

      ERROR MESSAGES/STACK TRACES THAT OCCUR :
      None seen.

      REPRODUCIBILITY :
      This bug can be reproduced often.

      CUSTOMER SUBMITTED WORKAROUND :
      Use GNOME without compiz.
