A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
When opening Java Control Panel via Start button --> Control Panel --> Programs --> Java --> Update Tab, changing settings for self-checking for new versions of Java are not saved after changing and pressing "OK" or "Apply"
STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM :
From Windows 7:
Start button --> Control Panel --> Programs --> Java --> Update tab, changing settings for self-checking for new versions of Java are not saved after changing and pressing "OK" or "Apply"
After pressing "OK" to close the window and clicking on Java --> Update tab, the update settings are the same as they were before attempting to change the settings
EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
EXPECTED -
The revised update settings should be retained.
ACTUAL -
The settings, pre-attempt to change them are what is retained.
REPRODUCIBILITY :
This bug can be reproduced always.
CUSTOMER SUBMITTED WORKAROUND :
Navigate to directory
C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\"
right click on "javacpl"
choose "Run as administrator"
choose "Yes"
select "Update" tab
change settings and choose "OK" or "Apply"
Re-enter by reloading javacpl; the changed settings are retained
