The make macro HOTSPOT_BUILD_VERSION can be used to set part of the JVM version string. Currently it is only evaluated when the build tree is created, i.e., during a clean build. It would be more convenient if it were evaluated on every build, so that timestamp or other temporal information can be included in the version string in incremental builds.
