A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
During the process of updating Mozilla Firefox java plugin to the latest 7u40 version via java.sun.com website:

Trying to use java uninstall applet from java.sun.com to remove old java:

http://www.java.com/en/download/uninstallapplet.jsp

The applet requires the latest version to work.

As the new java is not yet installed the applet cannot work.

-> There is no point requiring old version uninstall first if it cannot be achieved with the suggested tool.

The applet recognizes used java version and works accordingly.
